St. John’s Aims for March Madness Glory in Bold Pursuit

In San Diego, St. John’s held a March Madness practice at Viejas Arena. A 27-member band warmed up in the hallway before the team took the court.

The band was followed by six cheerleaders and six dance team members. Johnny, the mascot, danced as the players prepared for the game.

St. John’s plays Northern Iowa on Friday night in the opening round. This appearance comes months after coach Rick Pitino first assembled the team.

Coach’s message

Pitino is a Hall of Fame coach. He waited outside the locker room in a white sweatsuit.

Filmogaz.com asked him near the locker room why he brought up the national championship. He said he will not coach forever and wanted to dream with the players.

Team support and pageantry

The coach used a “pot of gold” image to describe the prize at season’s end. He also warned about the treacherous “Survive and Advance” marathon ahead.

Energy and pageantry boosted St. John’s before the matchup. The team is pursuing March Madness glory in a Bold Pursuit.

Road ahead

Pitino’s message aims to sharpen focus and inspire urgency. Friday’s game will be an early test of that resolve.
