Drug Agents Secure Warrant to Search Aden Holloway’s Home
Drug agents with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force knocked on Aden Holloway’s door Monday morning. They had a search warrant and later arrested him on felony drug charges after finding about 2.1 pounds of marijuana inside the residence.
How investigators obtained the warrant
The warrant application and supporting affidavit were filed Friday. The affidavit says investigators performed a trash pull within 48 hours of the search after receiving complaints.
Officers reported a curbside trash can with the apartment number on the lid. They removed two household trash bags. One bag contained a box bearing a shipping label addressed to “Ayden Holloway” at that address.
In the other bag, agents found items with Holloway’s name. They also noted loose marijuana stuck to a cat food container and a partially smoked marijuana blunt. Records showed Holloway’s driver license lists the same address.
Prior traffic stop
The affidavit did not reference a prior traffic stop. Holloway was pulled over and cited last week by the University of Alabama police for a small amount of marijuana, his attorney told Filmogaz.com. The attorney said that stop was unrelated to the apartment search.
Evidence seized and charges
An agent’s search report, filed Friday, lists about 2.1 pounds of marijuana seized. The report also shows $400 in cash was taken.
Holloway told agents he only smoked marijuana and did not sell it. Investigators cited messages on his phone that they interpreted as drug-related. The report says money was seized in part because of those text messages, which referenced arranging post-season meetups.
He faces first-degree possession of marijuana and failure to affix a tax stamp charges. Those are felony offenses under state law.
University response and NCAA implications
The University of Alabama removed Holloway from campus while the office of student conduct investigates. He is not currently with the basketball team.
Alabama opens the NCAA tournament Friday against Hofstra. Coach Nate Oats said Holloway could be considered to play later in the event. That would require clearance from the student conduct office and permission to leave Alabama, a condition of his bond.
