Ikea Launches First Store in Sardinia
Ikea has opened a new shop in Elmas, inside the Fass Shopping Centre. The opening marks the company’s arrival with a major physical presence on Sardinia.
Store layout and product range
The facility covers more than 15,000 square metres of floor space across two levels. A 3,800 square metre showroom presents living solutions.
The site includes a 2,600 square metre market hall stocked with about 9,600 items. A 950 square metre area is dedicated to food offerings.
Staffing and leadership
The store employs 150 co-workers. Ninety are new hires and 60 transferred from the Viale Marconi pick-up point or other Italian locations.
Women make up roughly 62% of the store’s leadership team. Management highlights this as a key composition metric.
Sustainability and circular services
Dedicated services aim to extend product life and encourage reuse. Programs include Riporta e Rivendi and the Angolo della Circolarità.
These initiatives support more responsible consumption. They provide routes for customers to return and resell items.
Community and social projects
The inauguration also launched two local social projects with the Domus de Luna Foundation. Furniture was donated for a property seized from organised crime.
That site will become a reception space for families and vulnerable young people. Aid was also directed to a day centre for youth with fragility.
Earlier partnerships in Sardinia included efforts with the Elda Mazzocchi Scarzella Association. The Associazione Salesiani per il Sociale also received support.
Context and local response
The arrival follows Ikea’s 2016 opening of a Viale Marconi pick-up point. That location recorded over five million visitors in about ten years.
Local managers said the opening answers a long-standing demand for a full store. The development aims to bring affordable, sustainable solutions to Cagliari and surrounding areas.
The launch brings Ikea’s first store on Sardinia’s soil and represents a strategic step for the company in Italy. Filmogaz.com reported on the inauguration and community initiatives.
