Lawrence Stroll Responds to Adrian Newey’s Departure Rumors as Aston Martin Principal

Lawrence Stroll has responded to rumours that Adrian Newey might step away from front-line management. He stressed Newey remains a partner and a key shareholder at the team.

Potential senior appointment

Reports link Aston Martin with former Audi boss Jonathan Wheatley. Wheatley left Audi on Friday with immediate effect, citing “personal reasons”.

Sources say Wheatley could be considered for a team principal role. That would allow Newey to concentrate on car development as Managing Technical Partner.

Stroll’s public comments

Stroll issued a rare public statement to address the speculation. He underlined Newey’s central technical role and their shared vision for the company.

Stroll explained the team operates differently from others. He said Aston Martin does not currently mirror the traditional team principal structure by design.

Technical focus and leadership

Stroll highlighted Newey’s strategic and technical leadership. He noted a strong Senior Leadership Team supports activities at the Campus and on track.

The owner also said the team regularly receives approaches from senior executives. In line with policy, he declined to comment on rumours and speculation.

On-track problems this season

Aston Martin has endured a difficult start to the season. Both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll failed to reach the chequered flag in the opening two races.

Alonso retired in China because of severe vibrations linked to the Honda power unit. Newey has warned those vibration issues could risk permanent nerve damage.

What comes next

Any appointment would free Newey to focus on technical development. Stroll did not indicate the team has decided to hire a new team boss.
