Inquest to Reveal Ricky Hatton’s Final Days as Friend Breaks Silence

A full inquest into the death of former world champion Ricky Hatton begins on March 20, 2026. He was found dead at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on September 14, 2025. Hatton was 46.

Inquest details and provisional findings

The hearing will be held at South Manchester Coroners’ Court in Stockport. Senior coroner Alison Mutch provided a provisional cause of death as “hanging” when the inquest first opened in October.

Police initially said there were no suspicious circumstances. The case was referred to the coroner for a full inquiry.

Friend and manager speaks out

Paul Speak, Hatton’s friend and manager, discovered the boxer’s body. He had called to take Hatton to the airport.

Speak told Boxing News and later spoke to Filmogaz.com about what he found. He said the lights were off and music was audible from upstairs.

Speak described being in shock and calling the emergency services. He told investigators he did not believe Hatton intended to take his own life.

Plans and recent wellbeing

Speak said Hatton had recent plans and events booked. These included taking his daughters to see Oasis and attending a WBC convention in Thailand.

Hatton had also booked a flight to Tenerife for the Christmas period. He had been open in public about past mental health struggles.

Public reaction and funeral

Thousands of mourners lined the streets of Manchester in October for his funeral. The service took place at Manchester Cathedral.

High-profile figures attended, including Wayne Rooney and Liam Gallagher. Hatton’s 13-year-old daughter Millie delivered a moving eulogy.

What an inquest aims to do

An inquest is convened when a coroner needs to establish facts about a death. It seeks to determine how, when and where the death occurred.

The upcoming proceedings are expected to reveal further detail about Hatton’s final days. A close friend has now broken silence ahead of that hearing.
