Congressional Leader Surprises Carlisle with Visit for Affordability Forum
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made a surprise appearance at an evening forum in Carlisle on Thursday. She joined three fellow House Democrats for a discussion on affordability and related domestic policy.
The congressional leader’s unexpected visit surprised Carlisle residents and energized the affordability forum. The visit drew about 200 people to a rural venue.

The roster included Rep. Chrissy Houlahan of Chester County. Also on stage were Reps. Becca Balint and Teresa Leger Fernández.
MomsRising Together and partner groups organized the event. It was part of a series led by the Congressional Democratic Women’s Caucus.
Karen Showalter, state director of MomsRising Together, said timing and schedule led to Ocasio-Cortez’s late addition.
Venue and turnout
The forum took place at The Barn at Creek’s Bend in Middlesex Township. It sits about two miles northeast of Carlisle.
Roughly 200 people attended the event. The setting was informal and intended for audience interaction.

Lawmakers answered audience questions in a town-hall style format. Topics ranged from growing wealth inequality to artificial intelligence and voting rights.
