Pophouse Acquires Tina Turner Music Interests in Strategic Deal with BMG
Pophouse Entertainment has acquired a majority stake in the music interests and NIL rights of Tina Turner. The transaction was completed with BMG, according to a March 19 press release.
Deal specifics
The agreement transfers ownership of Turner’s catalog rights alongside BMG. It includes name, image and likeness rights as part of the package.
BMG originally bought an extensive bundle of Turner’s rights in October 2021. That prior deal was widely reported to be worth about $50 million.
Rights included and industry roles
The rights covered in previous and current deals include the artist share of recordings. They also include publishing writer’s share and neighboring rights.
Warner Music remains the record company for Turner’s recordings. BMG will continue to work with the Tina Turner Estate on legacy management.
Comments from leadership
Pophouse CEO Jessica Koravos described the acquisition as a move to protect and celebrate Turner’s legacy. She said the company plans creative projects to sustain the artist’s global profile.
Johan Lagerlöf, Pophouse managing partner and head of investments, said the firm feels privileged to steward Turner’s catalog. He promised respectful development of new projects.
Alistair Norbury, BMG president for UK, Continental Europe and APAC, emphasized the shared responsibility to keep her work resonant. BMG will remain closely involved.
Pophouse background and investment approach
Pophouse was co-founded by Björn Ulvaeus and Conni Jonsson in 2014. The company focuses on artist-centric investments across publishing, recordings and NIL.
Pophouse closed its debut fund, Pophouse Fund I, in March 2025. The fund raised more than EUR 1.2 billion, roughly USD 1.3 billion.
About 30% of that fund had been deployed through partnerships with KISS, Cyndi Lauper, Avicii and Swedish House Mafia. The KISS transaction reportedly topped $300 million.
Creative activations and live projects
The group emphasizes active catalog management. It builds immersive experiences and creative activations around acquired IP.
ABBA Voyage is a high-profile example. The avatar-powered show generated £104 million in turnover in 2024 and drew over three million visitors since 2022.
Pophouse is also developing a KISS avatar production slated for 2027. These projects reflect the firm’s strategy to create value beyond passive ownership.
Tina Turner’s legacy and achievements
Tina Turner died on May 24, 2023, at age 83. Her career spanned more than five decades.
She was twice inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and won 12 Grammy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award. Her solo sales exceed 100 million records.
- Studio albums: ten
- Live albums: two
- Soundtracks: two
- Compilations: five
Her catalog features hits such as “What’s Love Got to Do with It”, “The Best”, “Private Dancer” and “We Don’t Need Another Hero”.
Turner achieved several milestones. In 1967 she became the first Black artist and first woman on Rolling Stone’s cover. In 1988 she performed a record-breaking concert at Rio’s Maracanã Stadium.
Next steps and stewardship
Pophouse, BMG and the Tina Turner Estate plan to collaborate on long-term stewardship. The partners said they will pursue projects that honor her artistry and reach new audiences.
The transaction is the first major rights acquisition announced under Jessica Koravos’s leadership. The companies said they will continue to involve BMG in legacy development.
Details of the transaction were shared in the press release and reported by Filmogaz.com.
