JPMorgan Launches Star Athletes Council for Financial Advisory Initiative
JPMorgan Chase announced a new athlete-focused council and financial advisory program on March 18 in New York. The initiative aims to help players manage money during careers and after retirement.
Council leadership and members
The council will be chaired by Dwyane Wade, a three-time NBA champion. Wade was photographed at a Los Angeles premiere for the film “Goat” on February 6, 2026.
- Sue Bird, five-time Olympic basketball gold medalist.
- Tom Brady, seven-time Super Bowl champion.
- Alex Morgan, FIFA World Cup champion.
- Megan Rapinoe, FIFA World Cup champion.
Program purpose and structure
The effort is presented as JPMorgan Launches Star Athletes Council for Financial Advisory Initiative. It is designed to support athletes through short careers and into retirement.
J.P. Morgan Wealth Management will run the program. Kristin Lemkau is CEO of that division.
Services and staffing
The bank intends to staff an athlete center with finance professionals experienced with players. Some advisors will have either worked with athletes or been athletes themselves.
Education and outreach
The program will start financial education outreach at universities and major sports events. It will also maintain a content hub on the bank’s website.
Context and industry trends
JPMorgan follows rivals such as Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs. Those firms have long-established services for athletes and entertainers.
Most professional athletes leave competition before age 35. About one in six NFL players declares bankruptcy within 12 years of retiring.
