Luka Doncic Scores 60 Against Heat; Lakers Extend Win Streak to Eight
Luka Dončić poured in 60 points as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Miami Heat 134-126 in Miami on Thursday night. The win extended the Lakers’ season-best streak to eight games. LeBron James added a triple-double and tied an NBA games-played mark.
Dončić’s scoring outburst
Dončić finished with 60 points, the second-highest total of his career. His only higher night was a 73-point game against Atlanta in 2024. He also matched a previous 60-point outing vs. New York in 2022.
He set a new scoring mark for opponents of the Heat, surpassing James Harden’s 58 on Feb. 28, 2019. Dončić shot 18-of-30 from the field and hit 9-of-17 from three. He also made 15-of-19 free throws and scored 39 points after halftime.
Dončić is the NBA scoring leader this season. He has scored at least 30 points in eight straight games. This was his second 50-point game in five contests and came on the second night of a back-to-back.
Supporting performances and milestones
LeBron James recorded 19 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists for a triple-double. He tied the league record for games played during the night. Over a span of just over seven quarters, James hit 21 of 22 field-goal attempts.
James had made his final shot in Monday’s win at Houston, then went 13-for-14 in Wednesday’s game. He opened this game 7-for-7 before missing early in the fourth quarter. Austin Reaves contributed 18 points for the Lakers.
Miami’s effort and injuries
Bam Adebayo led Miami with 28 points. Tyler Herro added 21 and Norman Powell scored 20. The Heat led by as many as 15 points early in the game.
Miami has now lost three straight games. The team was without Jaime Jaquez Jr. due to left hip tightness. Andrew Wiggins also missed the game with a toe issue.
