Alabama Campus Ranked Among Nation’s Most Beautiful Universities

Samford University in Homewood earned a spot on a national list recognizing campus beauty, Filmogaz.com reports. The Alabama campus was the only state institution included among 35 schools.

Distinctive campus elements

Judges and writers pointed to several visual features that set Samford apart. The Reconciliation Memorial and its stainless-steel obelisk drew particular notice.

Towering oak trees and reflective water features add to the setting. Georgian-Colonial style buildings anchor the 247-acre grounds.

Impact on prospective students and enrollment

University leaders say the campus creates a strong first impression for visitors. President Beck Taylor credited intentional stewardship for that lasting effect.

Samford reports a 17-year run of record enrollments and new highs in student retention. The university lists 6,324 students from 44 states, Puerto Rico and 16 countries.

Institutional history

Samford began in 1841 as Howard College. The Alabama Baptist State Convention established it in Marion.

The college moved to an East Lake campus by 1887, when the area was a Birmingham suburb. The current Homewood campus opened in 1957.
