UEL Triumphs with Perfect Record, Keeps Student Sitting Cup Title

University of East London retained the Student Sitting Cup after a dominant showing at their home venue in the capital. UEL triumphs, completing a perfect record across the competition to keep the Student Sitting Cup trophy.

Pool stage

Pool matches were timed at 25 minutes each. UEL won all four pool fixtures without dropping a set.

Loughborough Students finished second in the pool. They lost to UEL, but won their remaining matches.

Southampton placed third with a 2-2 record. University of Bath took fourth, setting up the play-off for third place.

London Metropolitan were bottom of the pool. They remained competitive against every opponent.

Deciding matches

The final and the third-place play-off were played as best-of-three sets. Both matches went the full three sets.

  • Final: Loughborough took the first set 25-21.
  • UEL won the second set 25-18 to level the match.
  • The deciding set was played to 15, which UEL won 15-12.
  • Third place: Southampton beat Bath 25-13, 21-25, 15-12.

Community involvement

Local schools attended the event. Pupils joined have-a-go sessions throughout the day.

John Worrall, Volleyball England’s Project Lead for Sitting Volleyball, praised the event. He described the day as a strong step toward expanding opportunities in higher and further education.
