Amir Khan’s ‘Aura’ Returns as McNeese Hype Man for March Madness
Amir Khan is preparing for one final March Madness run before he graduates this fall. He serves as McNeese’s student manager and gained national attention as “Aura.”
Viral rise
In February 2025 a video of Khan rapping with a boombox around his neck exploded online. He led the Cowboys out of the locker room in that clip. The moment became a recurring pregame ritual.
He often appeared with jewelry and other accessories. Those visuals helped him land sponsorship deals. Khan’s persona drew fans and media attention nationwide.
Following the coach, then returning
When Will Wade left McNeese for NC State, Khan briefly followed him to Raleigh. He took on a similar role with the Wolfpack. Earlier this year Khan returned to McNeese and is back with the Cowboys.
Role and impact
Khan credits the players for creating the energy behind his persona. He says the team’s three-peat run as Southland champions fueled that momentum. As a hype man, Khan keeps the mood lively for teammates and fans.
He told Filmogaz.com he does not feel the need to change how he leads the team. He says the excitement comes from the players’ energy on the court.
Tournament outlook
Khan will be front and center as McNeese attempts another NCAA upset. He watched the Cowboys beat Clemson in last year’s tournament. He believes a similar surprise is possible in the upcoming matchup.
He noted opposing teams do not relish playing McNeese. He pointed to Vanderbilt’s reaction as evidence. Khan thinks that attitude will help the Cowboys stay dangerous.
