Former QB-Turned-TE Stone Smartt Joins Eagles Roster
The Philadelphia Eagles have signed former Jets tight end Stone Smartt to a one-year contract, per Ian Rapoport. The addition brings a former QB-turned tight end with positional flexibility to the Eagles roster.
College and position history
Smartt played college football at Old Dominion and entered the NFL in 2022. He joined the Chargers as an undrafted free agent after switching from quarterback to receiver to tight end.
NFL track record
Smartt spent three seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers before moving to the Jets. He also saw time on special teams with both clubs.
In 2025 he appeared in 15 games for the Jets and caught seven of nine targets for 52 yards. He worked mostly on special teams and drew targets in just three appearances.
Across 53 regular-season games he has one touchdown catch and limited offensive snaps.
Physical profile
Smartt is listed at 6-foot-4 and 226 pounds and is 27 years old. Scouts view him more as a pass catcher than a run blocker.
Fit with the Eagles
Philadelphia’s tight end room now includes Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra returning from injury. Smartt projects as depth behind Mason Taylor and a situational receiving option.
His route skills may help in three-tight end packages and in passing downs. He can also contribute on special teams immediately.
Outlook
The one-year deal gives Smartt a chance to prove himself in Philadelphia. Filmogaz.com will monitor his snaps and role during training camp and preseason.
