Teenage Girl’s Body Recovered After Car Plunges Into Cambridgeshire River
On Tuesday evening a car carrying five people left the road and entered the River Nene near Wisbech. The incident happened at about 8.20pm. The occupants were aged between 16 and 18.
Recovery and investigation
Specialist dive teams recovered the body of a teenage girl on Wednesday afternoon. Police confirmed the body recovered following the river incident.
Officers said they are still searching for a missing male believed to have been in the vehicle. Investigators continue to piece together how the car plunged into the Cambridgeshire river.
Hospitalised and missing
Two females and one male managed to exit the vehicle. They were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have not confirmed identities. They emphasised their enquiries remain ongoing.
Scene and response
The car was travelling southbound on North Brink in Wisbech St Mary’s when it left the road. The force said officers closed the road for the remainder of Wednesday.
At least a dozen emergency service personnel were on the riverbank. A white forensic tent was erected and multiple emergency vehicles lined the road.
Appeal for witnesses
Cambridgeshire Police appealed for anyone who saw the crash to come forward. They also asked for dashcam footage from the area that could help the inquiry.
