Platt Fields Park Eid Prayer Event, Attended by Thousands, Cancelled
Organisers have announced that the planned Eid gathering at Platt Fields Park will not go ahead in March 2026. The decision came amid concerns about parking, weather and ground conditions.
The Platt Fields Park Eid Prayer Event is Cancelled for the March Eid. The annual occasion is Attended by Thousands and attracts visitors from across the region.
Reasons for the cancellation
Officials said safety and operational requirements were not met. Heavy rain and soft grass increased the risk to vehicles and the site.
Local councillor and organiser Rabnawaz Akbar told Filmogaz.com that hard-standing parking was insufficient. He warned cars could get stuck and that turf damage would be severe.
Venue limitations and decision process
Organisers assessed both the park and the Platt Lane Sports Complex. Neither location could guarantee safe arrival and parking for the scale expected.
The choice followed discussions with Manchester City Council and partner agencies. Organisers urged people not to travel to Platt Fields Park expecting the organised prayer.
Guidance for worshippers
Worshippers have been asked to use local mosques instead. Many neighbourhood mosques will run multiple sessions on Eid morning to welcome attendees safely.
Funfair and future plans
The funfair and some stalls will still operate from March 20 to March 22. The large communal prayers will be deferred this March but are expected to return in May for Eid al-Adha.
- Event history: more than 20,000 people since 2017.
- Cancellation announced: 18 March 2026.
- Funfair dates: March 20–22, 2026.
