Riot Games Gifts Ticket Machines to Gyeongbokgung Palace

Filmogaz.com reports that Riot Games Korea donated five unmanned ticketing machines to Gyeongbokgung Palace. The devices aim to improve the visitor experience at the historic Seoul site.

Donation ceremony and rollout

The handover took place on March 17 at Gyeongbokgung in Jongno-gu, Seoul. The Cultural Heritage Administration joined Riot Games Korea for the ceremony.

New machines replaced ageing units at the Gwanghwamun ticket office. Rising visitor volumes had increased malfunctions and maintenance costs.

Expected benefits

Officials expect reduced waiting times and greater convenience for visitors. The unmanned devices should also lower staff workload and repair needs.

Rising visitor numbers

Gyeongbokgung has seen strong attendance growth in recent years. Counts reached 3.38 million in 2022, 5.57 million in 2023, and 6.44 million in 2024.

Riot Games and cultural heritage work

Riot’s partnership with the Cultural Heritage Administration began in 2012. Since then, the company funded asset repatriation, palace preservation, and youth education programmes.

Riot Games gifts ticket machines across palace sites, including Gyeongbokgung Palace. The firm previously supported a ticket machine replacement at Changdeokgung in 2024.

Leadership and intent

Hyukjin Cho, CEO of Riot Games Korea, said the donation reflects strong support from players. He added the company plans to continue cultural heritage protection activities.

Financial scale

By 2025, Riot Games Korea’s cumulative donations reached ₩10bn. That level made the company the largest private sponsor in the heritage protection programme.

Riot’s broader presence in Korea

Riot operates titles including League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and VALORANT. The company hosted the 2023 League of Legends World Championship in Korea.

Riot has also expanded into music, comics, publishing, and television. The animated series Arcane remains a prominent example of that push.

Visitors should see shorter queues at Gwanghwamun in the coming months. The donation pairs modern ticketing technology with long-term heritage management goals.
