Residents Criticize City for Ignoring Dickerson Pike Safety Concerns
Metro Nashville Police are searching for the person who shot and killed a man found in woods off Dickerson Pike and Briley Parkway. A passerby discovered the body Tuesday night behind the Dickerson Pike Walmart, near a homeless encampment along Doverside Drive.
Homicide investigation
Homicide detectives identified the victim Wednesday evening as 27-year-old Trevett Cole Rash. Investigators believe he had been shot earlier in the week and do not yet know why he was in the area.
Metro Nashville Police ask anyone with information to contact Nashville Crime Stoppers. Tips can be anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward up to $5,000. Call 615-742-7463 to share information.
Neighbors voice safety concerns
Residents say the shooting has intensified calls for action. Neighbors criticize the city for ignoring Dickerson Pike safety concerns and demand a cleanup of the encampment.
Local resident Christina Callaway said the discovery left her shaken. She noted the woods sit less than two football fields from her house and families once walked past the area daily.
Ongoing problems around the encampment
Neighbors report escalating criminal activity tied to the camp. They say trespassing and thefts from porches have become common.
- Residents have contacted city officials for years with limited response.
- City crews posted “no trespassing” signs and fined the out-of-state property owner.
- Homeless outreach teams reportedly visit the site on a weekly basis.
- Despite actions, the encampment has not been cleared and continues to grow.
Residents warned the situation could worsen without sustained intervention. They called on Metro to treat the site the same way as cleanup efforts in Bellevue and West Nashville.
