UK Weather: Sunshine Boosts Temperatures to 21°C
A surge of milder air will push daytime temperatures into the low 20s Celsius for parts of Britain this week. South-easterly winds will bring warmth to England and Wales, while Scotland and Northern Ireland remain cooler.
Where the warmth will be felt
Forecasters say western Wales and north Devon are likely to see the highest readings. Sheltered western locations could reach about 20 to 21°C, the Met Office warns.
Meteorologist Alex Burkill noted that blue skies and warm air will lift temperatures into the high teens across much of England and Wales. He added that 22°C cannot be ruled out in the warmest spots.
Regional outlook and contrasts
Scotland will stay cooler, with highs near 11 to 13°C in many areas. Northern Ireland is expected to top out around 10 to 11°C.
Southern Scotland and north-eastern England may remain dull and cool on Wednesday. Patchy drizzle is possible there, while eastern coasts face coastal cloud at times.
Nights and short-term changes
Nights will be chillier than the afternoons. Frost and fog are likely in places after clear evenings.
Temperatures in the south should ease later in the week. The north may see wintry showers return, driven by a rain belt on Sunday and Monday.
Later in the week and weekend
After a cold start on Thursday, much of the UK will enjoy a warm and sunny day with light winds. Cloud will persist over Scotland and northern England.
Friday and the start of the weekend look largely dry with sunny spells. Scotland may see rain on Saturday and Sunday.
Next week
More unsettled weather is expected late on Sunday and into next week. An Atlantic frontal zone is forecast to move across the UK.
- Cause: high pressure to the east drawing warm south-easterly winds.
- Potential peak: around 20–21°C in sheltered western areas.
- Higher values: 22°C not ruled out by the Met Office.
