T.Y. Hilton Retires from NFL Three Years After Final Catch
T.Y. Hilton announced his retirement from the NFL in a graphic posted on X Wednesday afternoon. He is 36 years old and thanked Mr. Irsay, his family, and the Colts organization.
Colts beginnings and rise
The Colts selected Hilton in the third round, 92nd overall, of the 2012 draft. He joined a receiving corps that included veteran Reggie Wayne and rookie quarterback Andrew Luck.
Hilton posted 50 catches, 861 yards, and seven touchdowns as a rookie. He then produced five 1,000-yard seasons across a six-year stretch.
Accolades and peak seasons
Hilton earned Pro Bowl honors four times from 2014 through 2017. He led the NFL in receiving yards in 2016 with 1,448 yards.
Across his decade in Indianapolis, Hilton recorded at least five touchdowns in eight different seasons. He hit a career-high seven touchdowns in both 2012 and 2014.
Signature game: 2013 playoff comeback
Hilton played a central role in the Colts’ 28-point comeback in the 2013 Wild Card round. He caught 224 yards in that game, the most in franchise history.
The outing ranks third-most receiving yards in a postseason game in NFL history. Hilton finished that contest with a 64-yard go-ahead touchdown with just over four minutes remaining.
