Chicago Bears Re-sign Former Linebacker to Strengthen Defense

The Chicago Bears have brought back linebacker Jack Sanborn on a one-year deal. He returns to the franchise where he began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent in 2022.

Sanborn’s recent seasons

Sanborn spent the 2025 season with the Dallas Cowboys. There he reunited with former Bears head coach Matt Eberflus.

He appeared in six games for Dallas, making five starts before landing on injured reserve. Across four NFL seasons, Sanborn has played in 52 games with 24 starts.

Career production

From 2022 through 2025, Sanborn compiled 183 tackles. That total includes 15 tackles for loss and 15 special teams stops.

Linebacker room and roster moves

Chicago cleared cap space this offseason by parting ways with Tremaine Edmunds. That move freed roughly $15 million against the salary cap.

T.J. Edwards will return as a starting linebacker. He will be joined by Devin Bush, who inked a three-year, $30 million deal in free agency.

  • D’Marco Jackson was re-signed after contributing during last season’s injuries.
  • Ruben Hyppolite II and Noah Sewell also figure into the linebacker rotation.
  • Sanborn adds depth and special teams value to the group.

With the signing, the Chicago Bears re-signed a former linebacker to bolster linebacker depth and strengthen defense. The move gives the team familiarity and experience at a key position.
