Iran Strikes Back After Israel Kills Two Top Officials

Iran launched overnight missile strikes that targeted the Tel Aviv area. Iranian authorities confirmed the deaths of Ali Larijani and Gholamreza Soleimani on Tuesday.

Missile strikes in central Israel

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it fired multiple-warhead missiles toward Tel Aviv. The weapons included cluster munitions, the IRGC reported.

An apartment in Ramat Gan was hit. A man and a woman were killed there. Other damage was reported in central Israel, including to a Tel Aviv train station.

Confirmed deaths and claimed motive

Iran said the strikes were carried out in revenge after the killing of two senior Iranian figures. Iranian officials tied the attacks to the deaths of Ali Larijani and Gholamreza Soleimani.

The two deaths were confirmed by Iranian authorities on Tuesday. Iran framed the response as a direct reaction to those killings.

Profiles of the slain leaders

Ali Larijani served as parliament speaker and as a top adviser to the assassinated supreme leader. Many observers had seen him as a likely successor after that earlier killing.

Gholamreza Soleimani led the Basij paramilitary for seven years. The Basij are a volunteer militia branch of the Revolutionary Guard and have been accused of suppressing street protests.

Political reactions in Tehran

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the political system will remain stable. He insisted the government does not depend on a single individual.

Some international analysts warned the loss of Larijani could complicate diplomacy. One former ambassador noted Larijani had been a key interlocutor for external actors.

Civilian displacement and fear

Thousands of people have fled Iran to neighboring Iraq through the Haji Omeran border crossing. Those leaving described fear, increased checkpoints, and phone searches by security forces.

Witnesses reported an internet blackout and heightened domestic security. These accounts could not be independently verified.

Escalation in Lebanon

Israel struck central Beirut overnight, saying its targets included Hezbollah militants and installations. Lebanon’s health ministry reported ten dead in two morning attacks.

An Israeli strike destroyed a building in the Bachoura neighborhood. Authorities had issued an evacuation order near 4 a.m., and the strikes followed around 5:30 a.m.

Officials in Lebanon also said three public hospitals in Nabatieh were damaged. Bachoura is close to Lebanon’s prime minister’s office and several embassies.

Regional toll and U.S. losses

Since the war began on Feb. 28, health authorities reported about 1,300 fatalities in Iran. Lebanon’s toll stood near 922 deaths, while Israel reported at least 16 fatalities.

U.S. Central Command said 13 U.S. service members were killed and roughly 200 troops were wounded. The conflict continues to produce high military and civilian costs.
