Mayor Hosts Gala Honoring Exceptional Achievements of Three Local Charities

The Mayor of Enfield, Cllr Margaret Greer, hosted a gala at Meridian Grand in Edmonton on Friday the 13th. The event welcomed residents, community leaders and charity volunteers.

Event focus and purpose

The evening aimed to highlight and celebrate local charitable work. It raised funds through ticket sales and a silent auction.

The mayor began her year-long term last May. Money from the gala adds to funds raised since then.

Enfield Black Heritage Hub

Dionne John, chair of the Hub, said the gala’s proceeds will support health and wellbeing programmes. Funds will also back arts, education and legal access projects.

The Hub plans to share the evening’s impact online and will use the hashtag #GalaConnect.

Royal Free Charity — North Middlesex Red Cell Service Fund

Royal Free Charity supports Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. That trust manages Chase Farm Hospital and North Middlesex University Hospital.

The North Middlesex red cell service assists adults and children with rare blood conditions. Examples include sickle cell disease and thalassemia.

Donations help pay for specialist training, service development and vital equipment. These investments aim to improve patient care and quality of life.

Macmillan Cancer Support — Enfield

Local Macmillan activity is led by volunteer Hayes Rees. He described being named one of the mayor’s charities as an honour.

Macmillan volunteers were present at the gala. The group praised community generosity and support.

Voices from the gala

Cllr Greer thanked attendees for their generosity and community spirit. She expressed pride in what the borough has achieved this year.

Frances Bentley sponsored a silent-auction lot and helped plan the event. She said the evening allowed volunteers to connect with supporters.
