Tranmere Rovers: Pete Wild Named Manager And Begins Tenure With Goalless Draw
Tranmere Rovers have appointed Pete Wild as manager until the end of the season, and he began his spell in charge with a goalless draw at his former club Fleetwood as the club look to arrest a damaging run of form.
Tranmere Rovers Appoint Pete Wild To Steady Ship
Pete Wild takes charge at a club in a precarious league position, with Tranmere Rovers 19th in League Two and seven points clear of the bottom two despite losing 11 of their past 12 matches. Wild replaces Andy Crosby, who was sacked last week. He will be joined by assistant Adam Temple, while Andy Parkinson resumes his role as first-team coach.
Wild has managed three clubs in League Two previously and was most recently in charge of Fleetwood Town until his departure in January. On taking the job he acknowledged the challenge ahead, saying he believed the squad could make progress and push forwards.
Goalless Draw At Former Club Fleetwood On Debut
Wild’s first match as Tranmere manager ended 0-0 at his former club. The match was described as lacking real quality but featured several moments that threatened to break the deadlock. Ethan Ennis missed a chance at the back post for the hosts, and Ched Evans had a cross-turned-shot that struck the roof of Tranmere’s net.
Fleetwood’s Harrison Neal had the best opening shortly before half-time, only for Mario Marosi to produce a reflex save to push the effort out for a corner. After the interval, Stephen Negru saw a header tipped over the bar by home goalkeeper Jay Lynch, and later Elliot Bonds rattled the crossbar with a powerful strike that almost won the game for Fleetwood.
Wild was in the away end at Prenton Park last weekend as an Oldham supporter and moved to the dugout this week as the club try to avoid relegation to non-league football. He was previously sacked by the Lancashire club earlier this season, making his debut against former colleagues a notable start.
With the new appointment in place and a point taken on his first outing, Tranmere Rovers now face the immediate task of converting performances into results as they aim to climb away from the relegation zone with Wild at the helm.
