Apple has introduced the latest over-ear model, airpods max 2, powered by the H2 chip and designed to deliver stronger active noise cancellation, new intelligent listening features, and wired lossless support for creators and audiophiles.

The new Airpods Max 2 are built around Apple’s H2 processor, which enables several features previously limited to other models. The headphones add Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, Voice Isolation, and Live Translation to the over-ear lineup for the first time. The H2-enabled feature set also unlocks capabilities aimed at content creators, including studio-quality audio recording and a camera remote function.

Noise Cancellation, Sound Quality and Lossless Support

Apple says H2 and new computational audio algorithms make Active Noise Cancellation up to 1. 5x more effective than the previous generation, reducing environmental noise such as airplane engines and commuter trains. Transparency mode has been refined with a digital signal processing algorithm tuned for H2 and the headphone microphone array to produce more natural ambient sound when users need situational awareness.

On the playback side, Airpods Max 2 include a new high dynamic range amplifier and promise cleaner, more detailed sound with improved localization in Spatial Audio. For wired listening and professional workflows, the headphones support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio when connected with the included USB-C cable, and they are described as the only headphones that let musicians create and mix in Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking when used with compatible software. Reduced wireless latency and a Game Mode are also highlighted to improve responsiveness for games.

Availability, Pricing and Environmental Details

Airpods Max 2 will be available to order starting March 25 in midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue, with shipments beginning early next month. The new model carries a suggested price of $549. Apple has also emphasized materials and packaging: the headphones use 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in magnets, 100 percent recycled polyester in the ear cushion, recycled gold plating and tin solder in Apple-designed printed circuit boards, and 100 percent fiber-based paper packaging that can be easily recycled. These measures are presented alongside the company’s broader carbon neutrality plan for the decade.

Deliveries and broader retail availability are expected to follow the initial order window. Observers and potential buyers will be watching how the H2-enabled feature set and lossless wired option influence uptake among listeners, creators, and professional users now that studio-grade and mixing-oriented capabilities are included in an over-ear consumer product.
