Tomb Raider I-III Remastered: New Outfits and Challenge Mode Added in Free Update Today
A free Challenge Mode update for tomb raider I-III Remastered is available today, bringing new outfits that change Lara’s abilities, a level difficulty modifier system, and 15 additional trophies — designed to add more than 40 hours of replayability. The trilogy is also coming to Switch 2, with a no-cost upgrade for existing owners scheduled to roll out on 18th March 2026.
Tomb Raider Remastered Adds Challenge Mode, New Outfits and 15 Trophies
The free Challenge Mode patch introduces a set of level modifiers that let players decide difficulty on replay, from generous boosts to punishing restrictions. Modifiers include downgraded weapons, reduced health, and increased enemy counts to raise a run’s challenge rating (CR). Increasing CR and tackling harder modifier combinations is the route to earning up to 15 new trophies added in the update.
Outfits are unlocked through in-game challenges using the new mode. These are more than cosmetic: each outfit grants unique enhancements to Lara’s abilities. The developer describes a variety of thematic sets players can earn, including gladiator-inspired and Pax Romana looks, heavily armed mobster and shotgun-focused styles, stealthy and fast variants, a super-soldier suit from a government facility, and versions tuned for cold or undead environments. One example highlights a run where players face a mix of apes, velociraptors, mummies and bats with only a pair of pistols and a -5 hp/s regen modifier to overcome.
The patch is billed as delivering 40+ hours of replayability by combining outfit rewards, ability upgrades and level modifiers. Players who prefer an easier experience can also dial back difficulty — the update mentions an option to set Lara to 500% health for a more relaxed run.
Switch 2 Release And Free Upgrade Starting 18th March 2026
The remastered trilogy is now available on Switch 2, with the platform version offering 1440p at 60fps in docked mode and 1080p at 120fps in handheld mode. The Switch 2 release is available as a standalone purchase and is currently on sale in select locations at half price, reduced from $29. 99/£25. 26 to $14. 99/£12. 63.
Existing owners of the earlier Switch version will receive the Switch 2 upgrade at no extra charge through a free update, with the rollout scheduled to begin on 18th March 2026. The Challenge Mode content update that adds the new outfits and difficulty customisation is included as a free patch for all versions of the trilogy and is timed to coincide with the series’ 30th anniversary.
The developer thanks the community for support during the project and cites collaboration with the original remaster team in bringing the classic trilogy to modern platforms. Players can expect the new mode, trophy additions and outfit-driven ability changes immediately with today’s patch, and the platform-specific Switch 2 upgrade to begin rolling out on the scheduled date.
