A Prison Service spokesman confirmed the death and said: “John Shannon died in prison on 13 March 2026. As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will investigate. ” Alford was found unresponsive in his cell at the Norfolk facility, where he had been serving his sentence.

Alford—who stood trial under his legal name, John Shannon—was jailed on 14 January 2026 after being found guilty of multiple sexual offenses against two teenagers, aged 14 and 15, linked to an incident in April 2022 at a friend’s house in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. A jury heard he purchased a bottle of vodka that the girls drank at the property.
He was convicted of four counts of sexual activity with the younger girl, and of sexual assault and assault by penetration against the older teenager. The sentence imposed was eight-and-a-half years in prison.
