Polestar 2 Next Generation Electric Sedan Updates for 2027

Polestar is preparing a next-generation Polestar 2 for 2027 that keeps the model’s core identity while introducing design, packaging and technical upgrades aimed at improved range and passenger space.

Polestar 2 Design, Size and Platform Changes

The 2027 Polestar 2 will be an evolution of the current sedan rather than a complete overhaul. The new car will be roughly 10 centimeters longer and will sit lower, changes intended to improve proportions and increase rear passenger space. The exterior will retain signature brand cues such as Dual-Blade headlights and the characteristic front end without a traditional grille, while incorporating an aerodynamic element drawn from the Polestar 3.

Underpinning the new vehicle is a new Geely platform that will serve as the technical foundation for this model and future vehicles. Battery technology upgrades are planned to increase driving range compared with the current model.

Interior and Controls Aligned Toward Drivers

Inside, the central screen will be reoriented to be more driver-focused and the interface will be redesigned for greater user-friendliness. The cabin will also gain additional physical control buttons, a move away from fully touch-dependent layouts. Chief designer Philipp Römers, who previously worked with the Volkswagen Group, is leading the design updates.

Company CEO Michael Lochscheller has characterized the Polestar 2 as a successful model, noting that more than 180, 000 units are already on the road. That position informs the company’s choice to pursue an evolutionary approach rather than a radical reinvention for 2027.

Model Rollout, Sustainability Disclosures and Commercial Stakes

The updated Polestar 2 arrives as part of a broader push that the company describes as its largest model offensive to date, with four new cars planned across a multi-year launch window. The brand is targeting low double-digit volume growth in 2026 as it expands its lineup.

Polestar has also been publishing full-model Life Cycle Assessments as part of a wider transparency initiative. The Life Cycle Assessment disclosure for the Polestar 5 has been positioned alongside the company’s launch roadmap to reinforce sustainability credentials while new models enter the market.

Financially, projections tied to the company’s product rollouts include forward-looking revenue and earnings scenarios. Analysts’ views range from optimistic assumptions of sustained high revenue growth to concerns about ongoing losses, cash burn and shareholder dilution that could influence how much the brand captures from its product and retail expansion.

Polestar plans to debut the next-generation Polestar 2 in 2027 and to continue expanding a fully electric lineup built on the new platform. The revisions aim to sharpen the model’s practicality, driver experience and range as the company accelerates its model introductions and sustainability disclosures.
