Mfc Foundation To Feature On Boro Shirts For Bristol City Match
This weekend Middlesbrough will wear shirts carrying the mfc Foundation logo after FDJ United donated the front-of-shirt sponsor space for the club’s fixture with Bristol City. The change will see Unibet absent from the front of the first-team shirts for the game.
Mfc Logo Replaces Unibet For Bristol City Game
FDJ United has given its front-of-shirt position to Middlesbrough’s affiliated charity so that the MFC Foundation logo will appear on the shirts for the match at the Riverside. The decision means Unibet will not appear on the front of the Boro players’ shirts for this game.
Fans were reminded of unusual kit variations recently when David Strelec’s shirt carried a different front-of-shirt sponsor during a game because of a misprint on a second shirt; Strelec changed into the correctly printed shirt at half-time. For the Bristol City fixture, however, the applied change is planned and intended to raise the profile of the Foundation’s work.
Neurological Football Sessions And Community Work Highlighted
The donated space is intended to highlight the Foundation’s life-changing work across Teesside for people of all ages. FDJ United also helps fund the Foundation’s Neurological Football sessions, a programme that allows those suffering with Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological conditions the chance to play football and enjoy vital social time together.
Adrian Wrigley, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease more than four years ago, described how important the sessions have been for him: “From diagnosis, I was a bit apprehensive about what my future held. I ended up losing my job due to it. I had some big lows. I shut myself off. But since joining this group I realised the mental stimulation you get from talking to others is invaluable. The Foundation use the power of the football club badge to engage with people like me living with a neurological condition, and it’s given me back some of the community support that I lost from not working. I’d like to give thanks to Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation for persevering and improving lives. ”
Charlotte Dinsdale, head of the Foundation, said the organisation is grateful for FDJ United’s support and that the raised profile helps the Foundation reach deeper into communities and connect with people who might be going through challenging times.
Sam Mead, the UK General Manager of FDJ United, said the company is proud of its long-standing relationship with the club and the Foundation, and that it is delighted to once again donate the front-of-shirt space, noting the Foundation’s work across the North East is inspiring and vital to the community. FDJ United had also provided the space for the women’s home fixture against Loughborough Lightning last weekend.
Matchday Note: What Fans Should Expect
As Boro seek to end a three-match winless run on home turf, supporters attending the Riverside this weekend should expect to see the MFC Foundation name prominently displayed on the shirts rather than the usual first-team sponsor. The club intends the move to raise awareness of the Foundation’s programmes and the support available to people living with neurological conditions.
Participants from the Neurological Football sessions have already been shown holding the Middlesbrough shirts that players will wear against Bristol City, underlining the link between the club’s matchday visibility and the Foundation’s community work.
