Reminders of Him Review and Cast: Colleen Hoover's Latest Adaptation Opens in Theaters March 13
Colleen Hoover is two-for-two at the multiplex — in terms of showing up, anyway. Reminders of Him opened in wide release this week from Universal Pictures, bringing another CoHo bestseller to the big screen just months after It Ends with Us dominated the 2025 box office conversation. The reviews are split, but the audience is already there.
What Reminders of Him Is About
After a perfect outing with her boyfriend, Kenna Rowan makes an unbearable mistake that sends her to prison. Seven years later, she returns to her hometown in Wyoming hoping to rebuild her life and earn the chance to reunite with her young daughter, Diem — a child she has never known.
When Diem's custodial grandparents refuse Kenna's attempts to see her daughter, she discovers unexpected compassion — and then something deeper — with former NFL player and local bar owner Ledger Ward. As their secret romance develops, so do the dangers for both of them.
The novel it's based on has sold more than 6 million copies in the United States and has been translated into 45 languages.
The Cast of Reminders of Him
Maika Monroe leads as Kenna, and the performance is drawing the most consistent praise from reviewers. The chemistry between Monroe and Tyriq Withers — who plays Ledger — is getting particular attention, with critics noting the pair move deftly through the script's emotional range.
The supporting lineup is stacked. Lauren Graham and Bradley Whitford play Diem's grandparents, Grace and Patrick. Rudy Pankow plays Scotty, Diem's father. Grammy winner Lainey Wilson makes her film debut as Kenna's friend and coworker Amy. Wilson's casting was one of the more unexpected choices — and early reviews suggest she holds her own.
Jennifer Robertson plays Kenna's landlord, and young actress Zoe Kosovic appears as Diem.
Director, Writer, and the All-Female Filmmaking Team
Vanessa Caswill directs from a screenplay written by Hoover herself alongside Lauren Levine — an all-female filmmaking team at the top of the production. Caswill previously directed Love at First Sight and the Little Women miniseries.
Hoover also serves as a producer alongside Levine and Gina Matthews, who produced Isn't It Romantic and 13 Going on 30. Universal Pictures is distributing.
Mixed Reviews, but the Box Office Opened Strong
Critics are divided almost cleanly down the middle. Rotten Tomatoes logged a 59% critics score from 69 reviews as of this week — mixed, but not a pan.
Variety called the film tastefully understated — which some readers will take as a compliment and others won't. Deadline went harder, labeling it the latest ludicrous Hoover adaptation, arguing logic exits the film early and never returns. RTÉ landed somewhere warmer, framing it as a romantic drama built for an emotional audience.
Thursday preview screenings brought in $1.9 million before the film's official Friday opening. That's a healthy early signal for a mid-budget romance with no major franchise IP attached.
Runtime, Rating, and When It Opens
Reminders of Him premiered in Los Angeles on March 9 and opened nationally on March 13, 2026. The film runs 1 hour and 54 minutes and is rated PG-13.
A DVD and Blu-ray release is estimated for July 2026, with a streaming date not yet confirmed.
Reminders of Him is playing in theaters nationwide now. Tickets are available through Fandango and at theater box offices.
