Josh Nasser Re-Signs With Rugby Australia and Qld Reds For Two Years

Josh Nasser has re-signed with Rugby Australia and the qld reds on a two-year contract through to the end of 2028, committing the hooker to Brisbane and national pathways as he seeks to build on recent Test form.

Qld Reds Lock In Hooker Josh Nasser

The Queensland Reds and Rugby Australia confirmed Nasser’s extension runs to the end of 2028. The 26-year-old will remain a key part of the club’s forward foundations as the Reds continue to secure players through the medium term. Nasser said: “Queensland is home and there is nowhere I’d rather be at this point of my career with the exciting group we have and the opportunities coming up in the next few years. To be able to stay is a massive privilege. ”

Nasser’s Record With Reds and Wallabies

Nasser has represented the Reds in 44 matches and carries the Reds number 1349. He has been capped 11 times for the Wallabies and is Wallaby No. 979. His international debut came against Wales in Melbourne in 2024, and he played five Tests for Australia in 2025. In his most recent outing he scored his first international try against France at Stade de France in November.

The hooker’s listed playing profile in the announcement includes his position as hooker, height 188cm, weight 112kg, and that he made his Queensland debut in 2020 against the Lions in Johannesburg. Club records note 44 Reds caps and 10 tries.

Club Comments, Family Background and Next Steps

Rugby Australia’s Director of High Performance said Nasser has developed into a strong and mobile hooker for the Reds and Wallabies since making his Queensland debut in 2020 and Australia in 2024, adding that at 26 his best is still ahead of him. Queensland Reds head coach Les Kiss called the re-signing “great news, ” noting Nasser has made massive improvements over the past two or three years and that his influence in the locker room is growing weekly.

Nasser’s announcement referenced a strong rugby family: his sister Bella is co-captain of the Australian Women’s Sevens team and his father Brendan was a member of the Wallabies’ victorious Rugby World Cup squad in 1991. He credited coaches and people around him for providing a platform after a lengthy ankle injury prior to 2024 and said his aim over the next two years is to expand on his development.

The contract extension arrives with a calendar of international fixtures listed for coming seasons, reinforcing the dual provincial and national pathway Nasser will occupy through the length of his new deal.

With the qld reds locking in another homegrown forward, the club and national program have secured a player who has moved from academy prospect to an established Test option as they plan forward into the next competitive cycles.
