Greg James Cycle Route: Day 1 From Weymouth To Bristol
Greg set off from Weymouth and rode for roughly 125 kilometres on the first day, battling hills and late winter weather before rolling into Bristol on the waterfront. The challenge is being framed as an eight-day, 1, 000km ride through England, Wales and Scotland, also described elsewhere as a 630-mile cycle challenge. The route will culminate in Edinburgh on Red Nose Day.
He began the ride amid cheering crowds on the seafront in Weymouth. Supporters lined the start and were present along the route, with music and local groups turning out to encourage him as he made his way through towns including Dorchester and Shepton Mallet toward Bristol.
Crowds, Challenge Details And Local Ties
The presenter launched the ride on a tandem bike but will be riding mostly solo for each eight-hour daily leg, joined at times by other Radio 1 presenters and special guests. At the start he described the challenge ahead as “ridiculous” and said he would “give it everything. ” On the roadside he thanked banner-waving supporters for coming out, and local choirs sang as he left the town.
Greg spoke about his personal connection to Weymouth while preparing to leave, saying the town holds family memories and that returning there felt “very special. ” He recalled childhood visits to the seafront and radio events that helped spark his interest in broadcasting. Despite stormy weather the night before the start, he said he was excited to get underway.
Live coverage of the ride is planned to continue, with streams and updates resuming tomorrow at 9: 00 am ET so audiences can follow his progress on the next stage.
Organizers and supporters are encouraging donations throughout the eight-day effort to keep momentum for the Comic Relief appeal as Greg continues the gruelling route toward Edinburgh.
