Georgie Gardner leaves Channel 9 after nearly 24 years on air

georgie gardner has told viewers she is stepping away from the network she joined in 2002, ending almost a quarter of a century in front of the camera. Her decision closes a long chapter that included roles as a 6pm newsreader and as a host on the Today Show, and her final bulletin will air on Friday April 17 (ET).

Georgie Gardner’s on-air roles at Channel 9

Her career at Channel 9 began in 2002. Over the years she anchored the 6pm news bulletin and took on presenting duties on the Today Show, and she also anchored bulletins across the day while taking reporting and hosting jobs on many programs at the network.

That range of on-air work is reflected in one of her statements: “Anchoring news bulletins across the day, as well as reporting and hosting roles on virtually every news program at the Network has been incredibly satisfying and an enormous privilege. ” Her presence was constant across flagship broadcasts.

Georgie Gardner’s statement and reasons for leaving Nine

She described the choice to leave as difficult but deliberate. “I could not be more grateful for the range of opportunities Nine has afforded me, ” she said, and she thanked colleagues and viewers for following her career.

She singled out what she called the people who enriched her work: “I will be forever thankful for having worked with countless colleagues, who are quite simply the best in the industry and I am humbled by the knowledge that there are viewers who have followed my career. ” She added that the decision to resign had not been made lightly.

April 17 (ET) final bulletin and the vacancy on the 6pm news

Her final bulletin is scheduled for Friday April 17 (ET). Channel 9 has not yet announced who will replace her on the 6pm bulletin, leaving a vacancy on an evening program she has long read.

For now, georgie gardner has said she is open to what comes next. “I’m open to new opportunities, ” she said, and she spoke of being excited to discover her next chapter. She added, “So much still to learn and discover in the world, and at age 55, so much still to contribute. ”

She also reflected on how her career began long before she joined the network. Her journalism start came at radio station 2NX Newcastle in 1992 when she was 21, a detail she referenced when looking back at the arc of her work.

Returning to the opening moment: after announcing she will leave the organization she joined in 2002, Georgie Gardner will sign off for the last time on Friday April 17 (ET). Viewers and colleagues she thanked can watch that final bulletin, which the network says will close her nearly 24-year run on its air.
