Mikayla Matthews and Jace Terry Separate After 8 Years on Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 4
Secret Lives of Mormon Wives fan-favorite Mikayla Matthews and her husband Jace Terry have confirmed their separation after eight years of marriage. The bombshell was revealed in Episode 9 of Season 4, which dropped on Hulu on Thursday, March 12, 2026, just months after the couple welcomed their fourth child together.
What Led to the Mikayla and Jace Split
The separation did not come out of nowhere. Mikayla and Jace spent much of Season 3 openly addressing their intimacy struggles on camera, and Season 4 revealed things had not improved. The couple, who have been married since 2018 and have three children, shared that they reached a breaking point after struggles with intimacy issues. Matthews said in the episode that the couple continued to have troubles with their sex life after she shared in Season 3 that she had been sexually abused as a child.
Mikayla shared during a confessional in the ninth episode that she and Jace stayed up all night talking through the pros and cons of separating and that between all of the MomTok drama and the pressure she feels to get the marriage in a good place, she was reaching a breaking point. The couple ultimately agreed to separate.
Mikayla's Health Is at the Center of Everything
Mikayla told costar Whitney Leavitt that she could not focus on fixing anything else while in her current state, saying her health was her top priority. She said it was hard to be motivated to fix other things while already maxed out.
Jace responded by saying the solution, in his view, would be to commit to trauma therapy until it no longer triggers her nervous system. He also told DadTok member Dakota Mortensen that he felt Mikayla was not trying hard enough to work through the struggles.
Mikayla was candid in a confessional: "There's part of me that is definitely scared to lose him because I feel like our marriage is so good outside of the sexual intimacy part of it, which is ironic because that's his No. 1 need and that's my No. 1 wound."
The Separation Is Not Permanent — Yet
Both Mikayla and Jace have been careful to frame this as a temporary pause, not a divorce. Mikayla said she does not think it is with the intention of being separated forever, and that she is not trying to go even a day away from the kids. She added that it could take weeks or months for her to heal, making a timeline difficult to put on the situation.
Jace agreed to the separation but shared his own condition, saying he did not want to get back together until Mikayla felt ready to commit to their relationship fully.
Mikayla and Jace: Who They Are
Mikayla, 25, and Jace, 30, first connected when she was just 15 years old after she left home. They welcomed their first son Beckham when Mikayla was 17, married on March 1, 2018, and have since added three more children — daughters Haven, Tommie, and baby Lottie, born July 17, 2025.
Jace lost his job as a project manager at Waffle Love in August 2024 after the show premiered, according to Mikayla's own Instagram stories. He has since become a regular presence in the DadTok universe alongside the other husbands from the show.
