Borderlands 4 Unveils First Story DLC Release This Month
Borderlands 4 is set to launch its first major expansion, Story Pack 1: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, later this month. This paid downloadable content (DLC) introduces a new vault hunter and opens a fresh explorable zone. Players will encounter new bosses and delve deeper into the story.
Exploring the Whispering Glacier
The update transports players to The Whispering Glacier, a frigid landscape under threat from a cosmic force. This region features derelict ships, strange growths, and a mysterious alien monolith. Players will team up with Ellie and the returning Mancubus Bloodtooth to uncover the glacier’s secrets and gain access to the Vault of the Damned.
New Features and Mechanics
- New missions, activities, and collectibles.
- Late-game mechanic to destroy massive fleshy growths, unlocking new areas and puzzles.
- A World Boss system that sends players to a nightmare dimension to battle a random boss.
- Introduction of C4SH, a rogue CasinoBot with the ability to cast randomized spells.
C4SH brings three Action Skills and three skill trees, with a full gameplay reveal expected next week. Players can anticipate intense challenges, including two major boss fights and 16 minibosses.
New Loot and Customization Options
This expansion enriches the loot experience with:
- Three Pearlescent weapons.
- Eleven new Legendary items.
- Twenty-eight cosmetic items, including Vault Hunter heads, skins, and customizations for weapons, vehicles, and ECHO-4 devices.
Progression and Future Content
Along with the DLC’s launch, Borderlands 4 will introduce shared progression across characters. Cross-platform save features are also planned for a future update. Gearbox’s roadmap for 2026 promises ongoing content, including:
