Morrissey Cancels Valencia Concert Due to Overwhelming City Noise
British singer Morrissey has announced the cancellation of his upcoming concert in Valencia. The decision stemmed from the overwhelming noise associated with the city’s famous Las Fallas festival, which left the artist unable to sleep.
Morrissey Cancels Valencia Concert Due to Overwhelming City Noise
In a statement on his official website, Morrissey explained that his arrival in Valencia was delayed after a two-day road trip. Upon reaching his hotel late on Wednesday, he found the festival noise—including loud techno music and megaphone announcements—impossible to endure. This sleepless experience reportedly left him in a “catatonic state,” ultimately leading to the cancellation of the performance.
Details of the Concert Cancellation
- Concert Date: Scheduled for March 13.
- Venue: Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, Valencia.
- Ticket Price: Starting at €103 (£88).
His management stated that, despite the cancellation, the decision was not made lightly. They added that circumstances surrounding the noise made it impossible for Morrissey to perform. To substantiate their claims, the singer even recorded the disruptive sounds.
Morrissey is still slated for performances in Zaragoza and Seville, occurring on March 14 and 16 respectively. However, his history of concert cancellations is notable. He previously canceled a concert in Madrid last year and faced similar situations in 2004, 2014, and 2015 for various reasons, including technical issues and audience disturbances.
Morrissey’s Career and Recent Album
Despite the challenges he faces with live performances, Morrissey continues to have a dedicated international fanbase. He launched his solo career in 1987 after gaining fame as the frontman of The Smiths. To date, he has released 14 studio albums, including his latest work, Make-Up Is a Lie, which reached No. 2 in the UK midweek charts shortly after its release on March 6.
Aside from the Valencia cancellation, Morrissey has already called off five shows from his current tour promoting the new album. This year alone, he has had to postpone one concert in California and cancel several others in various locations, including San Diego and the Dominican Republic.
Las Fallas Festival: A Noisy Challenge
The Las Fallas festival, officially running from March 15 to 19, is notorious for its raucous atmosphere. The event features concerts, fireworks, and elaborate floats created by neighborhoods competing for the most extravagant displays. The festival culminates in the burning of the floats, accompanied by spectacular fireworks.
For those who love peace and quiet, this festival is not the ideal time to be in Valencia. Even if Morrissey remains in the city, he should anticipate more noise, including another firework display scheduled for 8:30 PM on Thursday.
Fans of Morrissey will be hoping for a swift recovery of the artist and a successful series of upcoming performances in Spain.
