Foxborough Finalizes Agreement with Krafts for World Cup License
The town of Foxborough has officially concluded negotiations with the Kraft Group regarding the entertainment license required for Gillette Stadium to host FIFA World Cup matches this summer. This agreement marks the end of a lengthy standoff and sets the stage for exciting events ahead.
Agreement Details and Funding
On Wednesday night, Foxborough, in collaboration with Kraft Sports and Entertainment as well as Boston Soccer 2026, announced that they have reached a collective understanding. They will finalize the necessary details for an event license during the public hearing set for March 17.
Under this agreement, Foxborough will not bear any financial burdens related to the World Cup. Boston Soccer 2026 has agreed to provide upfront funding for security-related expenditures as required by public safety officials. This funding will help ensure the events run smoothly with the support of Kraft Sports + Entertainment.
Projected Costs and Security Concerns
The public safety funding concerns were a major point of contention in recent weeks. The projected security costs for the seven matches scheduled at Gillette Stadium are estimated to reach $7.8 million. Typically, the Kraft Group is responsible for security expenses at events held at the stadium. However, the unique circumstances of FIFA renting the venue raised questions about how those costs would be covered.
- President Donald Trump’s legislation, known as the “Big Beautiful Bill,” allocated $46 million for World Cup security in Massachusetts.
- The disbursement of these funds was scheduled to occur through the Department of Homeland Security in January, but delays have occurred.
Bill Yukna, chair of Foxborough’s Select Board, expressed relief that funding issues have been resolved. He thanked Robert Kraft for his role in achieving this outcome and indicated confidence in resolving any remaining licensing issues before the upcoming public hearing.
The town looks forward to hosting a successful and secure World Cup event this summer at Gillette Stadium.
