Kacey Musgraves Unveils Root Cause of Miranda Lambert Feud
Kacey Musgraves has openly discussed the longstanding feud with fellow country artist Miranda Lambert. The tension between them has endured for over a decade, but recent developments suggest a turning point in their relationship.
Kacey Musgraves Unveils Root Cause of Miranda Lambert Feud
In a candid interview with NPR on March 11, Kacey Musgraves, 37, revealed the circumstances surrounding their rivalry. She shared that she initially wrote the hit song “Mama’s Broken Heart,” which Lambert released in 2011 on her album, Four the Record. Kacey intended to record the song as her own first single.
Initially, Musgraves felt that the track truly represented her style. She had been working as a staff writer for several years and wanted to keep songs that resonated with her. However, the song was ultimately pitched to Lambert, a decision made without Kacey’s explicit approval. At that time, Lambert, 42, was a more prominent figure in country music.
The Turning Point
Reflecting on the situation, Kacey stated, “It was a tricky situation. She ended up loving the song, and she really wanted it.” Musgraves also acknowledged their shared background, both hailing from small towns in Texas, and how they took different paths to Nashville.
Eventually, Kacey embraced the outcome, realizing that it led her to create her own breakthrough song, “Merry Go Round,” featured on her debut album, Same Trailer Different Park, released in 2013. Over the years, Kacey and Miranda drifted apart, losing touch and not considering each other friends.
A New Collaboration
The relationship between the two artists took a positive turn when Kacey noticed Miranda’s Instagram activity, particularly a post of her riding horses. This sparked an idea for a new song, humorously titled “Horses and Divorces.” Kacey reached out to Miranda with the suggestion of collaborating, acknowledging their past but emphasizing a shared connection through their experiences.
- Kacey emphasized, “I’m not trying to be your friend. You got your life, I have mine.”
- Miranda agreed to the collaboration, which Kacey described as a “very full circle” moment.
- They completed the song in just a few hours, finding joy and laughter in the process.
Musgraves is set to release her upcoming album, Middle of Nowhere, on May 1. The album will feature the collaborative song alongside her new track “Dry Spell.” This collaboration signifies a shift in their dynamic, promising new beginnings for both artists.
