Google Messages Introduces Android Trash Folder Rollout
Google Messages is enhancing user experience with the introduction of a new Trash folder. This feature provides a safeguard for users who may want to recover deleted conversations.
Overview of the Trash Folder Feature
Until now, deleting a conversation within Google Messages would result in its immediate removal. The newly integrated Trash folder offers a temporary storage option. Users can move chats to this folder, allowing them to restore messages within a 30-day window.
Key Features
- Chats can be moved to the Trash folder, instead of being permanently deleted.
- Conversations in the Trash will be automatically deleted after 30 days.
- A notification will inform users about the deletion timeline.
- Users can choose to block numbers as needed.
Accessing the Trash Folder
The Trash folder is conveniently located between the Archived and Spam & Blocked sections within the app. It displays a list of conversations and their message count, providing a clear overview.
Restoration Options
From the Trash folder, users have the option to either delete all conversations or restore specific threads back to their main messages list. This flexibility allows for better management of message history.
Launch Information
This feature is currently rolling out in beta version 20260306_02_RC00. However, it may not yet be accessible to all users testing the application.
