Jack Osbourne Names Baby Daughter Ozzy Matilda in Tribute to Late Father Ozzy Osbourne
Seven months after losing his father, Jack Osbourne gave the world a reason to smile. The 40-year-old announced Wednesday that his fifth child — a baby girl born March 5 — carries the name Ozzy Matilda Osbourne, a direct tribute to the Black Sabbath legend who died last July. The newborn arrived the same week Jack opened up publicly about his final conversation with his father, turning one of the heaviest weeks of remembrance into something that felt, unmistakably, like continuation.
Ozzy Matilda Osbourne: Born March 5, Named for a Legend
Jack and his wife Aree announced the birth in a joint Instagram post Wednesday alongside grandmother Sharon Osbourne. "Introducing Ozzy Matilda Osbourne," the caption read, alongside a short video of the newborn.
She was born March 5 at 8:49 AM, weighed 7 pounds and 12 ounces, and measured 19 inches. The announcement photo showed her sleeping next to a stuffed bat toy — a deliberate nod to the moment in 1982 when Ozzy Osbourne bit the head off a bat onstage in Des Moines. The image was black and white. The gesture was unmistakable.
Aree shared the video to her own Instagram Stories with the caption: "Our Ozzy Matilda Osbourne has landed earthside."
Jack Osbourne's Kids: A Family of Five Daughters
Ozzy Matilda is Jack and Aree's second child together. Their first, Maple Artemis Osbourne, was born July 9, 2022. Jack is also father to three daughters with his ex-wife Lisa Stelly — Pearl Clementine, 13, Andy Rose, 10, and Minnie Theodora, 7.
Jack married Aree in 2023. He had announced the pregnancy three months ago in an interview with The Sun, describing the timing — arriving in the thick of his grief — as both healing and grounding.
"I think it's been partly a healthy distraction, partly healing — probably in that kind of 'full cycle' category, in a weird way," Jack said. "It's very much taken energy out of the grieving side of things and parked in a bit more hopefulness."
Ozzy Osbourne himself knew he was going to be a grandfather again before he died. Jack confirmed that directly.
Jack Osbourne's Final Conversation With Ozzy — "He Was Done"
The birth announcement came just days after Jack spoke publicly about the last real moment he shared with his father. On the "Hate to Break It to Ya with Jamie Kennedy" podcast, he described putting Ozzy to bed after Black Sabbath's final concert — the farewell show held weeks before his death.
Ozzy was brushing his teeth, looked in the mirror, and said he was thinking of cutting his hair off. When Jack asked why, his father's answer was simple: "I've retired. I'm not a rock star anymore."
Jack said that moment has stayed with him. He told the podcast he now believes his father "was done" and "was OK with his journey."
Ozzy died July 22, 2025 from a heart attack, coronary artery disease, and Parkinson's disease. Jack described it as a "surprise" — not because his father wasn't ill, but because "we weren't expecting it to be as quick as it was."
The Grammy Tribute, the BRIT Award, and a Name That Carries It All
The Osbourne family has spent the months since July in a cycle of grief and public tribute. Last month, Post Malone led a Grammy tribute to Ozzy that included Slash, Duff McKagan, and Chad Smith, performing Black Sabbath's "War Pigs." At the BRIT Awards, Robbie Williams and Zakk Wylde performed "No More Tears," with Sharon and Kelly Osbourne accepting a lifetime achievement award on Ozzy's behalf.
Jack was at the Grammys alongside his mother and sister Kelly, all three seen in tears during the in memoriam segment.
Now the family has something else — a baby girl sleeping next to a bat, carrying a name that will outlast every tribute reel ever made.
Sharon Osbourne reposted the birth announcement to her Instagram story with a single white heart emoji.
