As the Chicago Bears navigate the post-free agency landscape, they face critical needs on their roster to sustain competitiveness. Significant roster changes emerged during the legal tampering period, leaving the team with areas requiring attention ahead of the draft.

Bears’ Post-Free Agency Needs: Key Areas to Address

Safety Position

The Bears entered free agency with no safeties under contract. They signed Coby Bryant to a three-year deal, effectively closing the door on Kevin Byard, who has since joined the New England Patriots. Although the team re-signed Elijah Hicks to a one-year contract, they still need to sign at least two more safeties before the draft.

Jaquan Brisker remains unsigned and is unlikely to return.
The Bears are expected to pursue additional safeties in free agency and the draft.

Cornerback Depth

Despite having starters in Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stephenson, the cornerback position remains a low-key need. Stephenson did not see significant playing time last season, as the Bears opted for Nahshon Wright, who has now signed with the Jets.

The Bears may also look to bolster their cornerback depth in the draft if no significant free agency signings occur.

Tight End Position

While the Bears are secure with Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet at tight end, they lost Durham Smythe to the Baltimore Ravens. To enhance their depth chart, they may need to secure a blocking tight end in free agency or use a late-round draft pick for this role.

Defensive Line Improvements

The Bears struggled defensively in the 2025 season, especially regarding their pass rush and run defense. They signed Neville Gallimore and Kentavius Street to strengthen their defensive line, but the need for additional talent remains critical.

Expect substantial investments in defensive line positions during the draft.
Players like Austin Booker and Montez Sweat showed promise, but overall, more depth is required.

Wide Receiver Depth

The Bears have experienced changes in their wide receiver corps, with notable departures. Olamide Zaccheaus signed with the Falcons, and Devin Duvernay remains a free agent.

Rome Odunze and Luther Burden are anticipated to step up, but they will need more support. Kalif Raymond has been added as a third wide receiver and primary kick returner, but further strengthening is necessary.

Offensive Line Stability

The Bears faced an unexpected setback with the retirement of Pro Bowl center Drew Dalman. They traded for Garret Bradbury from the Patriots to fill the center position, albeit without the experience level of Dalman.

The Bears are also seeking to address the left tackle position.
Braxton Jones was re-signed, and former Browns pick Jedrick Wills Jr. was signed to compete for the position.
