Google Launches Play Games Sidekick and Game Trials Features

Google has unveiled some exciting updates for its gaming platform, including the launch of the Play Games Sidekick and the introduction of Game Trials. These features were previewed in September and are now rolling out to users.

Play Games Sidekick Features

The Play Games Sidekick allows gamers to enhance their gameplay experience in over 90 supported titles. Users can access a convenient overlay by dragging a handle, which opens up options for:

  • Capturing screenshots
  • Starting screen recordings
  • Activating Do Not Disturb mode
  • Streaming to YouTube Live

This feature also includes a carousel of AI-generated game tips tailored to players’ gameplay styles. Gamers can view their achievements, quest progress, and rewards within this overlay. Soon, players will have the ability to use “Start Gemini Live” to share their screens and receive in-game assistance.

Game Trials on Google Play

Google is also rolling out Game Trials, a new feature that adds a “Try” button on game listings. This allows users to sample the full version of a paid title at no cost, with their progress saved upon purchase.

Initially available for mobile games, Game Trials will be accessible on Google Play Games for PC in the future. Behind the scenes, this feature is seamlessly integrated into the Android App Bundle.

Buy Once, Play Anywhere Pricing

Another interesting update is the “Buy once, play anywhere” pricing model. This approach enables gamers to access both mobile and PC versions of select games. Some titles benefiting from this new pricing include:

  • Reigns series
  • OTTTD
  • Dungeon Clawler

A new “PC” page located in the Games tab allows users to browse desktop titles on their Android devices. Additionally, players can wishlist games and receive alerts when those titles go on sale.

Expanding Game Library

The Google Play platform is also expanding its collection of paid games. New titles like Moonlight Peaks, Sledding Game, and Low-Budget Repairs are now available, joining a robust selection of existing free-to-play options.
