Billie Eilish Debuts in Film with ‘The Bell Jar’
Billie Eilish is making her film acting debut in the adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s “The Bell Jar.” This film is directed by Sarah Polley, who is also responsible for the screenplay. Polley, an Academy Award winner, last earned acclaim for her work on “Women Talking,” which won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2023.
About “The Bell Jar”
“The Bell Jar” is the only novel published by American writer and poet Sylvia Plath. This semi-autobiographical work explores a young woman’s struggle with mental illness under the societal pressures of the 1950s. Originally released in 1963, the book was published under a pseudonym shortly before Plath’s tragic death.
Production Details
The film adaptation is being produced by Focus Features, supported by Joy Gorman Wettels from Joy Coalition, Plan B Entertainment, and StudioCanal. Gorman Wettels pioneered the project, collaborating with Eilish and Polley before Focus Features came on board.
