Pokémon Pokopia Boosts Nintendo Shares After Viral Success
Pokémon Pokopia has made significant waves in the gaming community, driving optimism for Nintendo. Following its release on March 5, the game quickly garnered positive reception, leading to a surge in Nintendo’s share price.
Nintendo’s Share Price Surge Post-Pokémon Pokopia
After a troubling decline in share value, the release of Pokémon Pokopia brought a much-needed boost. Prior to the game’s launch, Nintendo shares had dropped over 40% since November 6, when they were priced at ¥14,105 ($89.09). By February 13, share prices had fallen to ¥8,350 ($52.74).
Share Price Recovery
The game’s success led to a notable increase. On the first weekend of Pokémon Pokopia’s launch, shares climbed to ¥9,120 ($57.60) by Tuesday, reaching as high as ¥10,075 ($63.65) on subsequent days. Ultimately, the shares closed at ¥9,932 ($62.74), reflecting a 10.4% growth.
Challenges Ahead
Despite this positive shift, Nintendo’s share price has not yet fully rebounded from its holiday period decline. Analysts suggest that the slowdown of the Switch 2 in Western markets may still be impacting overall performance. Atul Goyal, a market analyst, noted an encouraging momentum for Nintendo, attributed largely to the success of Pokémon Pokopia.

The Road to Recovery
Analysts emphasize that Nintendo has a long way to go before approaching its August 2025 share price of ¥14,795 ($93.41). Despite the promising start of Pokémon Pokopia, ongoing challenges remain. The persistent memory shortage may lead to increased production costs for the console.
Moving forward, Nintendo is expected to expand its lineup of first-party titles, beyond the anticipated Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. Fans await announcements regarding a new 3D Mario game and significant updates for the approaching 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series.
While Pokémon Pokopia shows promise, it is clear that Nintendo’s future hinges on the development of strong game offerings and overcoming production hurdles.
