Shay Mitchell Joins ‘Baywatch’ Sequel as Series Regular
Shay Mitchell, known for her role in “Pretty Little Liars,” is set to join the cast of Fox’s upcoming “Baywatch” sequel series. The show is scheduled for release during the 2026-2027 television season.
Shay Mitchell’s Role in ‘Baywatch’ Sequel
In this reboot, Mitchell will portray Trina, a former lawyer who leaves her prestigious firm to pursue a full-time career as a lifeguard. Trina is characterized as the sharpest mind on Baywatch, known for her passion, dedication, and a tendency to second-guess her own intelligent decisions.
Returning and New Cast Members
Mitchell will join a notable ensemble cast, which includes:
- Stephen Amell as Hobie Buchannon, now a Baywatch captain.
- Jessica Belkin as Charlie Vale, Hobie’s long-lost daughter.
- Hassie Harrison as Nat.
- Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad.
- Brooks Nader as Selene, the captain of the lifeguards.
Additionally, David Chokachi returns as Cody Madison, serving in a recurring role as the owner of The Shoreline, a beach bar and grill.
Plot Elements and Production Details
The new “Baywatch” series will feature high-stakes rescues, complex relationships, and the iconic beach heroics that fans have come to expect. Hobie’s life gets complicated when he discovers he has a daughter eager to carry on the Buchannon legacy.
In September, the reboot was granted a 12-episode order by Fox, following its development since winter 2024. Production is expected to begin in the spring at Venice Beach and on the Fox Studio Lot in Century City.
Creative Team Behind ‘Baywatch’
This reboot is co-produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle. It will include
- Showrunner and executive producer Nix, known for “Burn Notice” and “The Gifted.”
- Executive producers McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto, and Mike Horowitz.
McG will also direct the premiere episode. Fox Entertainment Global is responsible for all domestic distribution rights, while Fremantle oversees international sales. Shay Mitchell is represented by Linden Entertainment, WME, and Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks.
