Photoshop Launches Live AI Assistant

Photoshop Launches Live AI Assistant

Adobe is enhancing its Photoshop software with the introduction of a Live AI Assistant, now available in public beta. This feature is designed to streamline the editing process, making tools more accessible to both casual users and professionals.

Photoshop Live AI Assistant: Key Features

The AI Assistant is integrated into both the web and mobile versions of Photoshop but is not accessible in the desktop variant. Users must join the beta testing phase to access this feature. The assistant icon can be clicked to open a text field for users to specify edits, such as:

  • Removing distractions from images
  • Changing backgrounds
  • Refining lighting
  • Adjusting colors

Interactive Editing Options

Photoshop’s AI Assistant offers two modes: automatic edits and step-by-step guidance. This allows users to learn editing techniques while applying changes to their images. The mobile app also supports voice commands for hands-free editing, increasing speed and convenience.

AI Markup and Firefly Integration

A unique feature called AI Markup allows users to draw over images and use Adobe Firefly or a third-party AI model to interpret those drawings, generating new elements. Firefly has also been updated with tools including:

  • Generative Fill
  • Remove
  • Expand
  • Upscale
  • Remove Background

Furthermore, there has been a collaboration with Microsoft 365 Copilot, incorporating Photoshop tools into its functionality.

Practical Applications of the AI Assistant

Adobe emphasizes the practical applications of the AI Assistant in their blog. Suggested use cases include:

  • Transforming vacation photos by removing unwanted objects
  • Enhancing portraits with color boosts and lighting adjustments

The assistant aims to simplify workflows, potentially attracting hobbyists and casual users who may not be familiar with complex editing processes.

Concerns and Pricing Structure

Despite its innovative features, there are concerns about the assistant encouraging users to consume generative credits rapidly. As Adobe shifts towards subscription models, it seems that generative credits may represent a move towards a pay-per-use structure.

Until April 9, subscribers to Photoshop on the web and mobile can enjoy unlimited generations with the AI Assistant, while free-tier users receive 20 initial generations.

With the introduction of the Live AI Assistant, Adobe is reshaping how users engage with Photoshop, aiming to redefine creativity in the digital space.
