Epic Games Raises V-Bucks Prices
Epic Games has announced a price increase for its in-game currency, V-Bucks, attributed to rising operational costs for Fortnite. This change will take effect on March 19, coinciding with the beginning of the next Fortnite season.
New V-Bucks Pricing Structure
The cost modifications mean players will receive fewer V-Bucks for the same price they previously paid. Here’s a breakdown of the new pricing:
- $8.99 will now purchase 800 V-Bucks (previously 1,000 V-Bucks)
- $22.99 will net 2,400 V-Bucks (previously 2,800 V-Bucks)
- $36.99 will provide 4,500 V-Bucks (previously 5,000 V-Bucks)
- $89.99 will now give 12,500 V-Bucks (previously 13,500 V-Bucks)
- Additionally, 50 V-Bucks will cost $0.99, nearly doubling the previous price of $0.50
Epic Rewards Program
In response to the price increase, Epic Games has highlighted its Epic Rewards program. Players will receive 20% back on V-Bucks purchases. This credit can be used across Fortnite, other Epic Games titles, or redeemed in the Epic Games Store. Notably, gift cards for V-Bucks purchased prior to this change will retain their original value.
Battle Pass Price Adjustments
In a contrasting move, the cost of the Fortnite Battle Pass is decreasing. The new prices are:
- Battle Pass: now 800 V-Bucks (previously 1,000 V-Bucks)
- Battle Bundle (Battle Pass plus 25 levels): now 2,600 V-Bucks (previously 2,800 V-Bucks)
- OG Pass: now 800 V-Bucks (previously 1,000 V-Bucks)
- Music Pass: now 1,200 V-Bucks (previously 1,400 V-Bucks)
- LEGO Pass: now 1,200 V-Bucks (previously 1,400 V-Bucks)

This decision comes amid a trend in the gaming industry, where various companies are adjusting prices for hardware, software, and subscriptions. Fortnite remains a top revenue-generating title, making billions annually, largely through V-Bucks sales used for purchasing in-game cosmetics. Additionally, Epic Games has created channels for developers using their user-generated content platform to monetize their creations.
