Lego and Nintendo Unveil First Super Mario Minifigure

After years of anticipation, Lego and Nintendo have officially announced the introduction of Super Mario minifigures. This revelation came on March 10, which fans recognize as Mario Day. The announcement showcased Mario in a traditional minifigure style, emerging from a Warp Pipe, though with a distinctive head shape unlike standard Lego figures.

Launch of Super Mario Minifigures

The new line of Super Mario minifigures is set to launch in 2027. Up to now, most Lego Super Mario figures have been designed as Interactive Lego toys. These figures have represented iconic characters like Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach in a blocky, squat form. This style resembles two stacked Super Mario Question Blocks, diverging from the classic Lego figure design.

Expanding the World of Lego Super Mario

This new series of minifigures expands the Lego Super Mario universe significantly. According to leaks from the Bricktap Discord server, the lineup will include several beloved characters:

  • Luigi
  • A “BigFig” version of Bowser
  • A minifigure of Yoshi, featuring a removable shell for another minifigure rider

In addition to these new minifigures, Lego has previously introduced brick versions of characters like Wario, Captain Toad, Bowser Jr., and Boo. Numerous classic Super Mario enemies are also available in Lego form. While many popular franchises, including Animal Crossing and The Legend of Zelda, have received the minifigure treatment, Super Mario represents a new direction for the collaboration.

Upcoming Releases

In addition to the minifigure announcement, Nintendo and Lego recently unveiled a new Mario Kart set. This set features Luigi with his Mach 8 kart, available for pre-order now and slated for release on April 1. These continuous releases highlight the ongoing partnership between the two companies, keeping fans eager for more.
