A significant new project by Amazon is set to transform logistics in the Brisbane area. The tech giant is establishing a large fulfillment center at the Flagstone Logistics Estate in North Maclean, Logan, south of Brisbane. This new facility is designed to enhance distribution efficiency for online shopping within the region.

The construction of the warehouse has commenced, with substantial investment from Amazon. The company is earmarking over $750 million for this state-of-the-art facility, which is expected to be operational by 2028. This fulfillment center will function around the clock, contributing to quicker delivery times for customers.
Warehouse Specifications
- Size: The fulfillment center will span approximately 140,000 square meters, equivalent to 18 rugby fields.
- Storage Capacity: It will hold up to 15 million smaller items available for sale on Amazon.
- Package Processing: The facility will have the capability to process over 125 million packages annually.
- Robotic Technology: Equipped with robots that can lift weights up to 500 kilograms.
- Job Creation: The project is expected to generate more than 1,000 permanent jobs in the area.
Community and Economic Impact
Wayne Angus, Amazon Australia’s director of operations, emphasized the company’s commitment to a positive work environment. He stated that the integration of advanced robotics with skilled local workers is a priority. The fulfillment center project received clearance from Economic Development Queensland, confirming its alignment with regional growth strategies. Planning Minister Jarrod Bleijie has confirmed this approval.

In support of such industrial initiatives, the Brisbane City Council has recently proposed the rezoning of approximately 82 hectares of land. This will allow for increased warehousing, logistics, and distribution use. Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner highlighted that this development adapts to the rapidly changing commercial landscape, ensuring that Brisbane residents benefit from faster delivery services.
