Raiders’ Remaining Needs: Key Areas for Improvement

After a significant offseason, the Las Vegas Raiders are poised to make further improvements to their roster. With ample salary-cap space, the team has committed nearly $290 million in contracts to several players, addressing key gaps and enhancing their lineup.

Raiders’ Free Agent Acquisitions

This year, the Raiders focused on strengthening both their offense and defense. They signed several notable free agents, including:

  • Baltimore center Tyler Linderbaum
  • Minnesota wide receiver Jalen Nailor
  • Indianapolis pass-rusher Kwity Paye
  • Philadelphia linebacker Nakobe Dean
  • Green Bay linebacker Quay Walker
  • San Francisco kicker Matt Gay

Additionally, they brought in Eric Stokes and pass-rusher Malcolm Koonce, while trading for cornerback Taron Johnson from the Buffalo Bills. In the trade, the Raiders sent a sixth-round pick to Buffalo and received Johnson along with a seventh-round pick in return.

Departures and Retained Players

On the downside, the Raiders lost two players from their in-house free-agent class: linebacker Jamal Adams and quarterback Kenny Pickett. However, neither was seen as a priority for retention.

Remaining Needs and Future Directions

Despite the impressive roster improvements, the Raiders still have critical areas that need addressing. Key positions where they might look to add more depth include:

  • Another guard or tackle on the offensive line
  • Additional wide receiver depth alongside Jalen Nailor
  • A second running back
  • A fullback
  • A backup quarterback

As the team maneuvers through the remainder of free agency, they remain well-positioned to make additional signings. With their financial resources and a variety of needs yet to be filled, fans should expect the Las Vegas Raiders to remain active in bolstering their roster.
