Hilary Duff Opens Up About ‘Devastating’ Estrangement from Parents
Hilary Duff has openly reflected on her “devastating” estrangement from her parents and older sister, Haylie, during a recent podcast appearance.
Family Dynamics and Estrangement
In an episode of the podcast *On Purpose with Jay Shetty*, which aired on Monday, Duff discussed the impact of her parents’ divorce on her life. She expressed how the lack of relationships with both her parents has shaped her feelings.
“To be in a family where your parents aren’t together, and you don’t have relationships with both of your parents, it’s devastating,” she stated. Hilary emphasized the importance of feeling cared for by her parents, sharing, “A big portion of my existence hasn’t felt like that.”
Relationship with Haylie Duff
Hilary also shared insights about her estrangement from her older sister, Haylie. This family conflict influenced her new song “We Don’t Talk” from her album *Luck… or Something*.
She revealed, “My sister and I don’t speak. It’s hard to be a person who’s had their life exposed in the industry for 25 years.” Despite the sibling rift, Hilary remains hopeful for reconciliation, saying, “I hope it’s not forever, but it’s for right now.”
Reflections on Divorce
In addition to discussing her family, Hilary reflected on her 2014 divorce from ex-husband Mike Comrie. Although the decision was difficult, she acknowledged its necessity for her son, Luca, born in 2012.
“Choosing to end a family is a huge, horrible choice to make,” she remarked. However, she noted that co-parenting with Comrie is manageable. “We do a great job mostly,” she concluded.
